Ein künstlerisches
Foto zu erstellen, ist letztlich immer auch der Versuch des Künstlers, die Welt
in der er lebt, zu verstehen, ihre Geheimnisse zu deuten, ihren Pulsschlag zu fühlen,
sie zu erkennen und ihre Sprache dem interessierten Betrachter näher zu
bringen. Dem jungen Fotografen Kai Virihaur gelingt dies auf besondere Weise.
Mehr als andere sind seine Aufnahmen auch unaufdringlich formulierte Fragen an
uns selbst. Sie müssen nicht beantwortet werden, das Hinterfragen steht im
Mittelpunkt. In den Themen vielfältig, in der Ausführung stets auch die Tradition
bedenkend, sind dem Fotografen höchst tiefsinnige und berührende Farb - Aufnahmen gelungen, deren künstlerische Präsenz in diesem Genre
kaum übertroffen werden...

I
am born in Sweden where I also have spent most
of my life. But I also lived in the U.S. for a
number of years, and this period influenced me
strongly as an artist. Indeed it was then I
experienced a turning point which made me work
seriously with Photography as a means of
artistic expression. My work has been described
like this:
--- Photographer Kai Virihaur's photos represent
a visual relationship of the earth and soul, and
of the motions contained within both. Virihaur
draws parallels in the forms of nature and the
body in his "Bodyscape" series, using
flesh, rocks, and water as contrasting elements
in textured compositions. Another series,
"Angel & Moon," finds correlating
forms in lunar and water shapes, using liquid
colors like patterns of stars. Virihaur seems to
reinterpret earthly symbols and forms of natural
design, making them fit into the cosmos of the
sea and sky. Like ancient hieroglyphs, the
images connect visions of human form with
mysterious and mystical cycles of nature. ---
